Drug Testing (Drugs of Abuse and Alcohol Abuse)
Drug testing is commonly used in healthcare, workplaces and criminal settings. The sample needed depends on the types of tests you wish to conduct, and could either be a urine sample, or a urine + blood sample. As per legal standards, positive drug testing results require secondary testing, which is done through the LC-MS/MS confirmation method to provide quantitative volumes.
While a simple test can be done for personal reasons, chain of custody is essential if the test is for legal matters.
Alcohol abuse is a disorder that comes with mild, moderate or severe symptoms that might affect your social, professional and personal life but can also heavily affect your health.
Written and informed consent is required from the patient who is undergoing any drug or alcohol abuse testing.
Results are confidential and emailed to the patient’s email address, but can also be collected from the clinic during our opening times. All contact with the patient is limited to essential communication only, which is done securely through the patient’s preferred method.
If you need help and support with drug addiction, please consider using the official NHS webpage, Drug addiction: getting help.

Drugs of Abuse 1 with chain of custody
This profile can be used in a court of law. The sample is a urine sample collected in the presence of one of our registered nurses ensuring chain of custody requirements are followed for legal purposes. Please bring with you a form of photo ID when attending your appointment.
Tests included are: Alcohol, Amphetamines, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepine, Cannabinoids, Cocaine, Codeine – opiate Dihydrocodeine, opiate Ketamine, LSD, MDMA, Methadone, Methaqualone, Morphine – opiate, Phencyclidine and Propoxyphene.
Drugs of Abuse 2
This profile also requires a urine sample and includes all tests as above, but is only intended for non-legal purposes as it does not include chain of custody.
Alcohol Abuse Profile 1
Suitable to check for alcohol abuse, this profile checks your liver health and your red cell size and detects biomarkers which are an indication of heavy and regular drinking.
A blood sample is collected from your arm by an experienced clinician.
Alcohol Abuse Profile 2
This is a more comprehensive profile that includes all the tests as in the Profile 1 above as well as the EtG, which is a test used to detect ethyl glucuronide in your urine. The EtG test is an indication of alcohol abstinence in situations where alcohol is prohibited. It is not usually used in workplace testing program as it does not give any indication of current impairment from alcohol.
Both a blood sample collected from your arm and a urine sample are required for this profile.
We also provide occupational health blood testing and vaccination services to groups of people at any location. Please call us for a quotation.
